The Executive Board of Directors of the International Pastoral da Criança (Child´s Pastoral) came together on February 1st, 2010 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and appointed Dr. Nelson Arns Neumann as a new Coordinator of the International Pastoral da Criança. The name of Dr. Nelson has been ratified by the Cardinal Geraldo Majella Agnelo - Founder and board member of the International Pastoral da Criança in compliance with the Statute of the International Pastoral da Criança. The following members were present at a meeting: Bishop Luis del Castillo - Bishop Emeritus de Melo, Mrs. María Laura Bulanti and Mr. Maurilio Leopoldo Schmitt, that unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Nelson.
Nelson Arns Neumann - 44 years old, married, born a Curitiba, graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Parana (1988), Master in Epidemiology, Universidade Federal de Pelotas (1997) and PhD. in Public Health from University of Sao Paulo (2000). He worked as adoctor, a lay missionary in the Diocese of Bacabal - Maranhão, Brazil, 1988-1989. Since 1990 the Deputy National Coordinator of the Pastoral da Criança of Brazil - Office of Social Action CNBB, National Bishops' Conference of Brazil.
