Breastfeeding is very important for the health of the mother and baby. Let’s see why.
Breast milk is complete for the baby. It's the only food they need until they are six months old. Therefore, the leader, when talking to the pregnant woman and the family about breastfeeding, explains the importance of breast milk and that breastfeeding is the healthiest, cheapest, and simplest way to feed the baby. When the partner and other family members encourage breastfeeding, the mother is calmer and breastfeeds her baby for longer.
Conversations about breastfeeding can be based on what the future mother and her partner want to know. This makes it easier for the leader's directions to be heard and put into practice.
A good start is to talk about breastfeeding experiences that the future mother knows. Whatever sisters, grandparents, mothers-in-law, mothers, friends, and partners say about breastfeeding can influence pregnant women in their desire to breastfeed.
Leader, the pregnant woman's body prepares itself for breastfeeding. Therefore, you should not, for example, rub a rough bath sponge or a rough towel on the nipple or stretch it with your fingers to strengthen the nipple, as was recommended in the past.
Some women think their nipples are too short for breastfeeding. It is good to say that the type of nipple does not interfere with breastfeeding. After all, it is under the areola (dark part around the nipple) that the channels that keep the milk are.
Leader, to encourage the mother to breastfeed, talk about the advantages of breastfeeding for the baby:
- Breast milk protects the baby against diseases, such as allergies, diarrhea, colds, urinary tract infections, and respiratory infections.
- Breast milk contains substances (antibodies) that defend against diseases.
- It is easily digested.
- Sucking develops and strengthens the muscles of the baby’s mouth, improving chewing, swallowing, and speech.
- It is a very special moment that strengthens the relationship between mother and child and conveys the safety, affection, and love that they need to develop well.
- Breast milk is a complete food.
Advantages of breastfeeding for the mother:
- helps reduce bleeding after delivery, making the uterus and breast volume return to normal size more quickly.
- increases the affective bond with the baby.
- In the first six months, breastfeeding prevents ovulation, acting as a natural contraceptive. But, so that the woman does not get pregnant, it is necessary that the baby feeds only in the breast, whenever they feel like it, without drinking tea or water.
- It is economical and ready-made.
- reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
Breastfeeding is good for the mother and even better for the baby!
"From birth, I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb, you have been my God."
