Breastfeeding general guidelines card for children under 6 months of age

The baby should only receive breast milk until six months of age, that is, water, tea, juice, or any other food should not be given. It's called exclusive breastfeeding. This is an official recommendation from the World Health Organization.

Breast milk is complete, protects the child from infections, promotes growth, and helps prevent obesity and malnutrition. It also helps prevent high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity in later life.

It is important that the baby breastfeeds whenever he wants, without a fixed schedule. He must also suck until one breast is completely empty before moving on to the other one and that he is latching well. If you have questions or difficulties (pain, nipple cracks, stoned milk, and others), talk to your leader and the health care professional at the health service. They will support you and help you to overcome these problems.

It is important to remember that breastfeeding brings benefits not only for the baby but also for the mother. It contributes to the increase of weight, for the uterus to return to normal size faster, protects the mother against breast and ovarian cancer, and even increases the bond between mother and child.

Also, talk to your baby a lot and give him lots of affection, love, and attention. Every child must feel loved and protected to develop well.

Stimulate your baby to be active from an early age, such as playing on the floor, reaching for objects, rolling over, crawling. Exercise improves sleep quality and promotes growth.
