Ties of Love

Ties of Love is a set of cards made for the pregnant woman. The purpose is to improve the involvement of the pregnant woman and family with the pregnancy, show the pregnant woman’s needs, the baby’s needs, and encourage her to undergo prenatal care.

These cards are numbered and must be shared and read with the pregnant women every month during home visits, according to the guidelines below: 

The ideal is to follow up with the pregnant woman from the first month of pregnancy. During this month, cards 1A and 1B must be shared for reading and talking with the pregnant woman and, whenever possible, with the father of the baby. 

In case the pregnant woman’s follow-up starts after the first month of pregnancy, there is no need to use more than two cards during the visit. 

If the first visit takes place in the: 

  • Month 2: use cards 1A, 1B, and 2; 
  • Month 3: use cards 1A, 1B, 2, 3A, and 3B; 
  • Month 4: first read and talk about cards 1ª and 4, and then about cards 2, 3A, and 3B; 
  • Month 5: during the first visit, read and talk about cards 1A, 4, 2, 3A, and 3B; during the second visit, cards 5 and 6; 
  • Month 6: follow the same order suggested for Month 5. In the third visit, use cards 7A and 8; 
  • Month 7: first read and talk about cards 1A, 7A, 7B and then, about cards 3A, 3B, and 5. During the 2nd visit, read cards 6 and 8; 
  • Month 8: during the first visit, use cards 1A, 7A, 7B, 3A, 3B, and 5; during the second visit, cards 8 and 9; 
  • Month 9: read and talk about cards 1A, 7A, 7B, 8, and 9 during the first visit. 

Important: from month 4 of pregnancy on, not all the cards will be used during the visit. Even though, those cards must be shared so that the pregnant woman can read them later and keep them as a memory. 

When the baby is born, use cards 10A, 10B, and 11. During the next visit, still in the first month of life, use cards 12 and 13. Keep visiting monthly and when the baby is three months old, share card 14. When the baby turns five months old, share cards 15A and 15B.
