To help those first thousand days contribute to the health of the baby and the pregnant woman, the leader carries out an activity in their community, which allows him to be closer to the families they follow up with, supporting them and informing them about care during this period. This activity is the home visitation.
Monitoring from the beginning of pregnancy
Visiting families in the community is the main way to find pregnant women. Some women immediately tell the leader that they are pregnant. Others take a little longer, and the leader will only find out about the pregnancy on the next visit.
Some signs can help a woman to find out if she is pregnant:
- no menstrual periods;
- sore and enlarged breasts;
- quick mood swings: one moment she is happy, another moment she is sad;
- frequent nausea and dizziness.
“At that time, Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
